Mat-1: Recycling Waste Storage

To obtain this credit the project must implement storage space that facilitates the recycling of resources used within buildings to prevent this waste going to landfill. Credit points are awarded based on the number of criteria met – dedicated storage area convenience of recycling, waste chutes, compost facilities and facilities for over-sized household items in accordance with prescribed requirements.

Product may contribute as an individual component, in combination with other suitable components, in providing recycling chutes, on-site composting facilities, and waste containers.

Mat-2: Building Reuse

Product is likely to encourage and recognise the re-use of existing building and existing facades to reduce new material consumption. Credit points are achieved based on the percentage re-use of gross building volume and percentage of exciting facade vertical area.

Mat-2 Note 1: Building Re-use

Product is likely to encourage and recognise the re-use of existing building and existing facades to reduce new material consumption. Credit points are achieved based on the percentage re-use of gross building volume and percentage of exciting facade vertical area.

Product may assist a project in obtaining this credit, as product may contribute in the re-use of a structure at the end of its life, in accordance with the prescribed requirements.

Mat-3: Recycled Content and Re-used Materials

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credit points as it contributes towards 1% of the project contract value being made up of reused products.

An additional credit point is awarded based on the percentage of recycled content used.

Mat-5: Concrete

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it helps facilitate the reduction of embodied energy and resource depletion through use of concrete. Credit points are awarded for the percentage reduction of Portland cement through substitution of industrial waste products or aggregates.

An additional point is awarded where the above is achieved and 10% of aggregate used for structural purposes is recycled and no natural aggregates are used in non-structural uses in accordance with prescribed requirements. If new concrete represents less than 1% of projects contract value this credit is not applicable.

Credit points are awarded for the percentage reduction of Portland cement through substitution of industrial waste products or aggregates.

An additional point is awarded where the above is achieved and 10% of aggregate used for structural purposes is recycled and no natural aggregates are used in non-structural uses in accordance with prescribed requirements. If new concrete represents less than 1% of projects contract value this credit is not applicable.

Product may contribute as an individual component, in combination with other suitable components, contributing towards above as recycled aggregates or eco-cement.

Mat-6: Steel

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it helps facilitate the reduction of embodied energy and resource depletion through reduction in use of virgin steel. Credit points are awarded for the percentage of structural steel (by mass) containing 24% post-consumer recycled content or 60% of structural steel is re-used steel.

An additional credit point is awarded where the above is achieved and 54% (by mass) of structural steel is post-consumer recycled content or 90% (by mass) of structural steel is reused steel. If steel represents less than 1% of projects contract value this credit is not applicable.

Mat-8: Sustainable Timber

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it meets the requirements of timber products used in building and construction works requirements where 50% (by cost) of timber is either post-consumer recycled timber, re-used timber or FSC certified timber.

An additional credit point is awarded where 90% (by cost) of the timber used in building and construction works meets, is either post-consumer recycled timber, re-used timber or FSC certified timber.

Mat-8 Note-1: Sustainable Timber

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it meets the requirements of timber products used in building and construction works requirements where 50% (by cost) of timber is either post-consumer recycled timber, re-used timber or FSC certified timber.

An additional credit point is awarded where 90% (by cost) of the timber used in building and construction works meets, is being either post-consumer recycled timber, re-used timber or FSC certified timber. 

Product may assist a project in obtaining this credit as it provides an alternative to a non-sustainable timber product, thereby minimising the value required in timber to meet the 50% or 95% certified fraction,provided that timber stills represents greater than 0.1% of the projects contract value.

Mat-9: Dematerialisation

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it provides a means of reducing the total amount of material used.  Points my be available where less material is used to provide for the buildings structural requirements but maintains integrity, or alternatively by reducing material use in a combination of areas including structure, ductwork, finishes, cladding and/or piping.  Point achievement is dependant on satisfying specific percentage reduction requirements.

Mat-11: Local Sourcing

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it provides a means of reducing transportation by using materials and products within close proximity of the project site. Credit points are awarded where 20% of the project’s total contract value is sourced within 400 km of the site. The materials and products used must be fully compliant with standard requirements stated in Multi Unit Residential Rating Tool.

An additional credit point is awarded where 10% of the project’s total contract value is sourced within 50 km of the site.

Mat-12: Efficient Dwelling Size

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining this credit as it provides a means of developing efficiently sized dwelling units. The credit point is achieved where a certain percentage of all dwellings have a rentable area that meets the criteria determined by the Multi Unit Residential Rating Tool.

Mat-13: Masonry

Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it helps facilitate the reduction of embodied energy and resource depletion through reduction in use of virgin masonry units. Credit points are awarded for the percentage of masonry units (by area) containing a certain percentage (determined in Multi Unit Residential Rating Tool) of perforated masonry units or reused masonry units are used.
