Mat-6: Steel
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it helps facilitate the reduction of embodied energy and resource depletion through use of recycled content steel.
For predominantly steel structured buildings, one point is awarded where at least 24% (by mass) of the structural steel is post-consumer recycled; or at least 60% of the structural steel (by mass) is reused.
For a predominantly reinforced concrete building, one point is awarded where at least 54% (by mass) of the steel used is post-consumer recycled, or at least 60% of the steel (by mass) is reused.
An additional two points may be awarded where 90% of all steel has a recycled content of at least 60%, or at least 90% of all the steel by mass on the project is reused.
