Mat-2 Note 1: Building Reuse
To obtain this credit the project must maintain existing building structure such as floors, columns, beams, and load bearing walls. Number of points awarded is determined by the percentage of building structure reused.
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining points as it increases the durability of structural elements, thereby increasing the potential for building structure to be reused in future renovations and building projects.

Mat-3: Recycled Content and Re-used Products and Materials
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it meets in whole (or in part) the prescribed requirements for materials containing post consumer recycled content for base building construction, or reused products/materials. One Credit Point is achieved when 1% of the contract value is represented by reused products/materials. And one or two points are achieved when the total value of recycled material content represents 1% or 2% of the total contract value.

Mat-5: Concrete
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it helps facilitate the reduction of embodied energy and resources depletion through use of concrete. Credit points are awarded for the percentage reduction of Portland cement through substitution of industrial waste products or aggregates.
An additional point is awarded where the above is achieved and 10% of aggregate used for structural purposes is recycled and no natural aggregates are used in non-structural uses in accordance with prescribed requirements.

Mat-5 Note 1: Concrete
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it helps facilitate the reduction of embodied energy and resources depletion through use of concrete. Credit points are awarded for the percentage reduction of Portland cement through substitution of industrial waste products or aggregates.
An additional point is awarded where the above is achieved and 10% of aggregate used for structural purposes is recycled and no natural aggregates are used in non-structural uses in accordance with prescribed requirements. If new concrete represents less than 1% of projects contract value this credit is not applicable.
Product may contribute as an individual component, in combination with other suitable components, contributing towards above as recycled aggregates or eco-cement.

Mat-5: Steel
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it helps facilitate the reduction of embodied energy and resources depletion through use of recycled content steel. One point is awarded for steel framed buildings where 60% of all steel has at least 40% recycled content or at least 60% of the structural steel by mass is reused and at least 90% recycled content for concrete framed buildings, or at least 60% of the steel reinforcing by mass is reused. An additional two points may be awarded where 90% of all steel has a recycled content of at least 60%, or at least 90% of all the steel by mass on the project is reused.

Mat-8: Sustainable Timber
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it meets the timber and composite timber requirements as being either post-consumer, re-used timber or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC, Chain of Custody) Certified timber. One credit point is awarded where 50% (by cost) of timber products meet the prescribed requirements, and two points are awarded where 95% of timber products meet the prescribed requirements.

Mat-8 Note 1: SustainableTimber
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it meets the timber and composite timber requirements as being either post-consumer, re-used timber or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC, Chain of Custody) Certified timber. One credit point is awarded where 50% (by cost) of timber products meet the prescribed requirements, and two points are awarded where 95% of timber products meet the prescribed requirements.
This product may assist a project in obtaining this credit as it provides an alternative to non-FSC certified timber product thereby minimising the value required in FSC timber to meet the 50% or 95% certified fractions, provided that timber stills represents greater than 0.1% of the projects contract value.

Mat-9: Design for Disassembly
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credit as it helps minimise the embodied energy and resources associated with demolition. Credit point is awarded where 50% (by area) of structural framing, roofing, facade and cladding systems are designed for disassembly or where 95% of total facade is designed for disassembly. If materials above represent less than 1% of the projects contract value this credit is not applicable.

Mat-10: Dematerialisation
Product is likely to assist in a project obtaining credits as it provides a means of reducing the total amount of material used. Point may be available where less material is used to provide for the buildings structural requirements but maintains integrity, or alternatively reducing material use in a combination of areas including structure, ductwork, building efficiency, finishes, cladding and/or piping. Point achievement dependant on satisfying specific percentage reduction requirements.

Mat-11: Local Sourcing
Product may assist in a project obtaining credits as the production and material resources are located within South Africa and therefore have a high probability of being within the prescribed radii of the site. One point is awarded where 20% of the contract cost is represented by products or materials sourced within 400km of the building site. An additional point may be awarded where 10% of the total cost is sourced within 50km of the site. To qualify for this credit products and materials must be permanent in the building and be harvested, extracted, recovered, and manufactured within the prescribed radii of the site.
